Course aim

To prepare students with the fundamental knowledge, skills and professional behaviours required for beginning nursing practice.

Course content

Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Registered Nurse Standards for Practice; National Safety and Quality Health Standards, inclusive of the Medication Safety Standard and the Aged Care Quality Standards; clinical assessment and decision making; Nursing Process (clinical assessment, care planning and coordination, clinical intervention and management, evaluation); monitoring and management of person centered nursing care; infection control; safe and quality use of medications; professional and interprofessional communication, teamwork, documentation; health informatics and electronic health records; health education and health promotion strategies; professional behaviours; evidenced based practice; cultural safety; Aboriginal health, legal and ethical considerations for provision of care and documentation.
