Course aim

To critically explore a problematic in literacy praxis informed by the latest theoretical understandings and perspectives from leading-edge research into literacy learning and teaching that will support further investigation through research.

Course content

Students will critically explore contemporary theoretical frameworks and perspectives in literacy learning and teaching including the cultural, political, social and ethical context of literacy and historical and contemporary trends and issues in literacy learning and teaching. Students will critically explore linguistic, sociocultural and cognitive theories of literacy, literacy pedagogies, prospective approaches to literacy learning and teaching including 21st century literacies, new literacies, multimodal literacy, etc.
