To build upon the animation theory and practice presented in Introduction to CGI, and familiarise students with an intermediate level of 3D character animation production.
Character Performance builds on the concepts presented within Introduction to CGI, and introduces students to an intermediate level of 3D modelling, lighting, texturing, rigging, animating and rendering concepts, techniques and processes. During the lecture series, students will enhance their understanding of the fundamental principles of animation specific to character design and performance. During the practical series, students will develop their design and performance skills in Maya, including character modelling, pelting, rigging, walk and run cycles, pose-to-pose and straight-ahead animation, facial animation, and motion capture. The assessment tasks will provide students with the opportunity to combine these skills and techniques to develop a short story; and design, build and animate a character within a narrative.
