To familiarise students with the terms, concepts, techniques, processes, skills, technologies and theoretical underpinning of 3D CGI for film production and other forms of visual communication.
Introduction to CGI introduces students to the foundational theory, skills and techniques required to create short 3D animated productions; from idea generation, visual communication and character design, through to the technical processes of modelling, texturing, animating, lighting, setting up cameras and rendering in Maya. During the lecture series, students will engage with key theoretical topics linked to 3D CGI, through presentations and class discussions. During the practical series, students will develop skills, concepts and ideas through structured exercises and studio time. Students will also engage with international peers through an interactive online learning environment. The assessment tasks will provide students with the opportunity to combine these skills and techniques to create their own short 3D CGI productions.
