To extend the student's knowledge and understanding of the basic laws, principles and concepts of electricity, magnetism, electromagnetism, electromagnetic waves, and their practical applications in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Vector calculus.
Electrostatics: Electric fields, Gauss’s law, Electric potential, Electrical properties of matter, Boundary conditions.
Magnetism: Magnetic fields, Magnetostatics, Magnetic force and Torque on a current, Ampere’s and Biot-Savart laws, Magnetic potential, Magnetic properties of matter, Boundary conditions.
Electromagnetism: Electromagnetic induction, Transformers, Faraday’s law.
Electromagnetic waves: Maxwell’s equations, Wave equation and solution (lossless and lossy media), Plane waves, Power density, Speed, Polarization of EM waves, Electromagnetic spectrum, Modulations of EM waves, Reflection and transmission.
Advanced Application Topics: may include Electromechnical devices, LCD, Radar, LED, Mobile, Microwave, RF, Electromagnetic compatibility (shielding, standards, testing).
Workshop Component: Interactive group problem solving, computer literacy, selected topic reinforcement.
