Course aim

The aim of this course is to introduce students to the study, design and analysis of structures in buildings and the behaviour of the materials used in these structures.

Course content

In this course the students would typically study the following subjects: soil and ground behaviour, footing design, slope stability, loads on buildings, structural materials, structural members, structural frames,  bracing of buildings, walls, concrete members, steel members and domestic construction.

Students will look at steel, concrete and timber as construction materials and their behaviours in residential and other structures, their applications and properties and use for construction.
