To deepen students' understanding of the nature of spoken and written language, its acquisition and use, and the implications for learning and teaching additional languages within diverse socio-cultural and ethno-linguistic environments.
Students will develop knowledge of learning an additional language, the relationship between language, culture and learning, and the intercultural orientation. The students will investigate the role of language in thinking and learning, the theories of second language acquisition, and the process and factors affecting the learning of an additional language. The students will also evaluate the relationship between learner background and language learning, the role of interaction and moving between languages and cultures, and the role of instruction in second language learning.
