Course aim

To develop critical perspectives on the theory and practice of curriculum, pedagogy and assessment and their relationships to democratic participation and an inclusive society.

Course content

Preservice teachers will develop an understanding of curriculum and assessment in diverse educational settings, the ideological bases for curriculum policy and decision making that can constrain or enable a participatory democracy. Preservice teachers will also investigate various stakeholders in the curriculum, contemporary issues in assessment and reporting, principles and practices of effective assessment, theories and practices that drive formation of curriculum. Preservice teachers will also evaluate the role of assessment in shaping the curriculum and understanding the role of educators in curriculum, and assessment practice inside contemporary education settings.
