Course aim

To enable students to gain knowledge of and experience in arts education theories and contemporary arts teaching that reflects and responds to diverse social and cultural contexts using methodologies associated with 'best practice' in secondary schooling contexts.

Course content

Students will identify and reflect on similarities and differences in the forms, functions and socio-political nature of the arts in diverse cultural traditions. The students will develop planning and presentation of arts lessons that explore social and cultural contexts of arts practice. The students will also undertake research to generate ideas using arts teaching methodologies associated with aesthetic and contextual knowledge in conjunction with contemporary arts practice to support learners in the arts and use of a variety of cultural resources and their incorporation in lesson planning appropriate to secondary and/or primary and middle arts education.
