To introduce students as pre-service teachers to the broad scope of Design and Technology Education and the spectrum of competing influences and values which shape the Learning area.
Students as pre-service teachers will develop knowledge about Design and Technology through discussion and practical activities. Key ideas addressed through discussion include; exploring the educational challenges presented by economics, vocationalisation and cultural stereotypes, balancing generalist versus specialist contestation, and product versus process. Through practical activities pre-service teachers will be introduced to the broad concepts of design and production techniques.
