To enable students to critically engage with principles and practices for designing language and culture curriculum in TESOL, that are grounded in a sound theory of language teaching, a recognition of the policy contexts, and a responsiveness to learner diversity.
The students will develop an integrated understanding of the complex range of aspects and elements of curriculum for English as an additional language or dialect, and become familiar with principles of curriculum development in TESOL. Guided by an advanced and sound understanding of the theoretical and practical range of issues concerning the relationship between policy and curriculum, as well as the contextual factors and learners' needs, the students will analyse, develop, critique and rationalise language programs for TESOL, formulating curriculum intentions, conceptualising curriculum content, critiquing, selecting, adapting and creating curriculum resources, and designing learner assessment, to achieve the intended goals established for the target TESOL setting.
