To develop students' understanding and experiences of arts as an essential educational process and introduce them to the concepts and methods of teaching in and through the arts with a focus on secondary and primary/middle years development.
Students will be introduced to arts-based learning, specialist methodologies and issues, the nature of learning in and through the arts. Students will explore diverse arts skills and knowledge within a variety of social and cultural contexts in which the arts are created and performed. The students will review the value of arts in society and in the lives of individuals, the role of the arts in an integrated curriculum, arts pedagogy and strategies for planning effective learning in and through the arts appropriate to different age groups and in the context of curriculum framework. The students will reflect critically engagement with contemporary arts pedagogy, consideration of the language of the arts and their functions as forms of communication and expression. The students will undertake individual and group planning tasks on the collection, creation, critical evaluation and annotation of teaching resources and the development of skills in presenting and demonstrating in the arts classroom.
