Course aim

To build students' understanding of the roles of language and literacy for learning in diverse contexts, and thus to develop personal and professional and disciplinary literacies.

Course content

Social and cultural contexts of language and literacy practices; dialectic relationship between contact and language; the role of language and literacy in learning; language and identity; the role of social interactions in language learning and development strategies for assisting language learning and development; the nature of multimodal texts and semiotics; disciplinary, personal and professional literacies.
