Professional Experience 2: Curriculum and Pedagogy

Course aim

The aim of this course is to provide pre-service teachers with the opportunity to work in depth in education settings appropriate to their specialisation, enabling them to develop the knowledge and skills that they acquired in their first year placement(s).

Course content

Pre-service teachers will develop knowledge of planning for teaching and learning using appropriate curricula, pedagogies and resources; developing skills and attitudes in critical reflection; developing professional relationships with children/students, their parents/caregivers, peers, and staff in the junior primary/ primary/ secondary school setting; understanding the nature of teachers’ work; building on students' funds of knowledge; creating and managing a positive learning environment. Pre-service teachers will have the opportunity to practice skills in these areas during their supervised placement in a primary school or secondary setting according to their specialisation.

Prerequisite(s)

1. Depending on their program, students must have completed the required prerequisite courses. 2. Students must have completed a minimum of one attempt of both the literacy and numeracy components of LANTITE to be eligible to enrol in EDUC 2062. 3. Students in the Bachelor of Primary Education (Honours) program must successfully complete the UniSA Supporting Children and Young People Living with Exposure to Abuse short course to be eligible to enrol in this course.
