Course aim

To enable pre-service teachers to develop awareness of the social and community contexts of educational settings, the roles of teachers, and the links between schools, and other agencies in providing for children’s learning and welfare.

Course content

Social, economic and political contexts of educational service provision, community and interagency links; self as learner; teacher’s role; schools: organisation, policies, practice; the centrality of relationships in learning and teaching; learning as an active process; using and evaluating learning environment technologies; understanding learning environments; observation; child protection and wellbeing issues; teaching individuals and small groups; reflecting on learning and practice.
