Course aim

The aim of the course is to develop students' skills to synthesise previous and new nursing knowledge and apply it to one of the following nursing contexts: acute care, aged care, perioperative care, palliative care, mental health, paediatrics, primary/public health.

Course content

Content is specific to one of the following contexts, ie acute care, aged care, perioperative care, palliative care, mental health, paediatrics, primary/public health.  Clinical interventions (preparing, assisting during and after care), clinical monitoring and management, communication and documentation, health education and promotion strategies, coordinating care, cultural competence, managing challenging behaviours, nurse as teacher for self and others, evidence-based practice, clinical reasoning, quality use of medicines, law and ethics, professional nursing behaviours (collaborative approaches to care, advocacy, scope of practice), models of self care, respect for privacy and dignity of clients/patients, teamwork and interdisciplinary teams, technology and health informatics.
