Course aim

The aim of this course is to develop students' knowledge and skills to assist infants, children and young people experiencing complex health problems achieve optimal health across a variety of contexts.

Course content

Principles of family-centred care; role of nurses caring for infants, children and young people; communication; child developmental theories; health assessment; quality and safety; immunisation; obesity, lifestyle education, nutrition and physical activity; pathophysiology, pharmacology, quality use of medicines, and nursing management of common conditions of infants, children and young people, evidence based practice; cultural knowledge; legal and ethical requirements of caring for infants, children and young people; child safe environment (mandatory reporting).
