Course aim

To develop student’s ability to critically analyse and apply contemporary family and child practice theory through child centred practice in a range of human service contexts.

Course content

The rights of children and child-centred practice; History and the cultural, economic and political context of definitions of child neglect and abuse and social work practice with children and families; the legal context for child-centred social work; contemporary theoretical and practice approaches to social work practice with children and families; child focused and child inclusive techniques and skills for practice with children and adolescents; culturally-sensitive and ethical practice including Indigenous and international perspectives.
