Course aim

To provide students with the theoretical knowledge and skills in preparation for dietetic and nutrition practice in community and public health including the principles of nutrition education and current theories, needs analysis, program development, and evaluation. It further develops understanding of community nutrition issues both in Australia and internationally.

Course content

This course includes the application of health promotion theories and principles to community and public health nutrition. It will include principles of nutrition education, tailoring to different community and cultural groups and factors influencing its effectiveness. Current public health and community nutrition related issues and how they are being addressed will be examined. Theory and methods used in conducting nutrition related needs assessment, program planning and evaluation within a community setting will be covered. Student learning will be consolidated through group discussion and application.
