To develop students' ability to design for manufacture focusing on materials and processes for low volume production, including computer aided design and CNC production methods. To introduce design for sustainability principles and practice as a factor in design development. To develop the students' understanding of simple mechanics and structures.
The students will develop knowledge of materials and processes used for low volume manufacturing, develop knowledge about the use of three-dimensional computer modelling to develop, simulate and communicate designs and how computer models are used for a variety manufacturing technologies.
Students will develop skills for designing within constraints imposed by materials, structures, simple mechanics, design for the environment and sustainability and low volume production. In addition students will develop skills in design simulation, development and communication via text, oral presentations, three-dimensional model making, CAD, drawing and graphic presentations.
