Psychology Experiential Learning Placement

Course aim

To enable students to apply and/or generate psychological knowledge and skills in a workplace context.

Course content

In this course students will develop their career management skills and work readiness, and apply the psychological and counselling knowledge and skills developed throughout their degree, through participation in a 50 hour community, industry or research placement. Students will prepare for their placement by developing a placement learning plan that focuses on personal development, career planning and professional skills in a placement proposal for a workplace setting. They will prepare for professional practice by developing an understanding of workplace contexts, values, ethics, professional relationships, accountability, competence, OHSW practices, workplace culture, structure, roles and functions. Students will also complete a learning journal throughout the placement and reflect upon their experience by completing a post-placement reflection on the placement learning experience to critically self-reflect and evaluate achievement of learning outcomes.
