To introduce students to the concepts of urban and regional planning, through relevant case studies in land use and subdivision design. 
To introduce students to the legal and administrative arrangements associated with undertaking the development of land and the accompanying responsibilities of the surveyor. 
Statutory framework for regional and local planning. Land use, zoning. Site survey and analysis. Subdivision design. 
Acts and regulations relating to surveying and land administration. Development applications and administration.
