Course aim

Develop an understanding of and the application of key elements of the ICAO Safety Management System (SMS) framework.   

Course content

The course will provide the introduction to the four elements of the ICAO SMS framework, namely:

  • safety policy and objectives
  • safety risk management
  • safety assurance
  • safety promotion
The course will examine the key elements of safety management systems, processes and procedures to achieve high levels of safety standards in aviation organisations. This will include examining the elements of hazard identification processes, risk assessment, risk mitigation, safety performance and change management.
