Course aim

To develop an understanding of the aspects of Threat and Error Management in the aviation environment.

To comply with Civil Aviation Advisory Publication CAAP 5.59-1 [0]

Course content

Threat and Error Management (definition/classification, origin & development). Threats (external &
internal) including: adverse weather; weight and balance; density altitude; runway length; other traffic;
high terrain or obstacles; the condition of the aircraft; fatigue; complacency; over or under confidence;
lack of flight discipline; hazardous behaviour; and lack of recency and proficiency.
Errors (including): incorrect performance calculations; inaccurate flight planning; non-standard
communications; aircraft mishandling; incorrect systems operation or management; and failure to meet
flight standards resulting in an 'Undesired Aircraft State'.
