Course aim

To introduce students to the communication principles and practice of quantity surveying, standard methods of measurement and measurement of domestic and small commercial buildings.

Course content

Introduction to working drawings. Detailing domestic building elements and components including foundations, footings, floors, walls, roofs and finishing trades. Computer aided design (CAD) applications. Preparation of specifications. Using engineering & surveying documentation. The application of these tools to the principles and practice of Quantity Surveying; Principles of measurement for building works; Use of Mensuration in Quantities; Measurement and Billing Process for Earthworks, Concrete and Reinforcement in Strip Footings, Brickwork, Structural Steelwork, Internal Finishes, Joinery and Roof Coverings .
