Course aim

To analyse the Australian Standards and Building Code of Australia requirements for the design and construction of buildings on a domestic and smaller commercial scale.To demonstrate an understanding of building surveying scientific principles used in the design and operation of residential and mid size commercial developments.

Course content

The Building Code of Australia Volume 2 and associated Australian Standards;The performance hierarchy in the design and construction of buildings; Design and assessment of residential buildings. Requirements for residential slabs and footings, and timber-framed construction. Fire safety, energy efficiency, health and amenity requirements for residential buildings; Bushfire mitigation measures for design and construction of residential buildings; Building Pathology.
