Course aim

To develop students’ cognitive and critical thinking skills through the planning and execution of applied social research into a contemporary social work issue with relevance to policy and/or practice.

Course content

Students will develop advanced knowledge of applied social research and the contribution of social work research to evidence-based practice and policy through topic selection, literature search and review, design of research methodology and analysis of social work values and ethics in research. Students will develop the application of knowledge and skills in the negotiation with human service agency staff, presentation of a research proposal, data analysis and thesis writing.
