Transformation of Security: Contemporary Issues

Course aim

To encourage critical analysis of contemporary security issues, and to build the skills of interpreting the significance and consequences of current events in the international arena.

Course content

Contemporary issues and conceptual frameworks in global and regional security studies; interdependence between theory and practice; transformation of security and securitisation; parameters of world order/s; democratic peace; religion in world politics and clash of fundamentalisms; unilateral use of force (prevention and deterrence); alliance politics; rogue and failed states; nuclear proliferation; economies of war and privatising of security.
