To prepare students for pharmacy practice generally, and the Professional Placement experience particularly, by the further development of the skills necessary to integrate and apply pharmacotherapeutic knowledge and dispensing techniques in the provision of best pharmacy practice, to gain an understanding of emerging practice models and the role of pharmacists in health promotion, including management of chronic disease.
An introduction to the professional standards of pharmacy practice, their place in practice, intention and use; an introduction to the legal and ethical frameworks of professional practice, including addiction medicine; the role-specific skills required for contemporary professional pharmacy practice in the major settings including: primary health care in community pharmacy; medication provision and review in community pharmacy; medication management and drug optimisation; therapeutic drug monitoring; clinical pharmacy services; specialised drug information services; pharmaceutical calculations; chronic disease management; concepts of continuous quality improvement.
