To introduce students to the counselling process and to basic counselling microskills, and to provide small group practice in the use of these.
This course will introduce students to the counselling process and to foundational counselling microskills including: attending behavior, open and closed questions, client observation skills, encouraging, paraphrasing and summarising, reflection of feeling. Students will also be introduced to the five stages of the interview: relationship, story and strengths, goals, restory, action. An overview of current research in counselling best practice will also be presented.
