Course aim

To extend students’ spoken and written communication and critical literacy skills in Modern Standard Arabic at the intermediate level with intercultural aspects integral to the language contexts covered.

Course content

Vocabulary related to a range of themes and contexts (describing daily activities and past events; expressing frequency; expressing opinion and supporting it; expressing preferences; expressing degree and frequency; travel related activities; family members and relations); a review of grammatical concepts and structures (negating imperative verbs; weak verbs; verb position; relative nouns; agreement with non-rational nouns; writing the hamza; the five nouns) with a focus on functional use; cultural knowledge integral to the range of situations and tasks in the language texts; oral and multimedia presentations; critical reading, thinking and analysis.

Please note that this course is available to UniSA students only. It is not available to students of other Universities wishing to study cross-institutionally.

Students must enrol concurrently in the equivalent Deakin University online course AIB252 Arabic 2B via cross-institutional enrolment. On successful completion of the Deakin University course students must apply for credit at UniSA.
