To provide students with an understanding of the dynamic tension between the evolving forces within and outside an organisation; and to show that managing organisational e-transformation effectively is dependent upon a balance between the organisation’s desire for stability in its business processes and the destabilising forces of the global marketplace.
Business Strategy and Valuation: structure vs. strategy, information strategy and organisational strategy, change and transformation in business, factors transforming strategy, valuing e-business investments and managing performance, constructing business models.
Business Infrastructure Development: management involvement in designing enterprise infrastructure, e-business infrastructure building blocks – integration, standards and security.
Business Process Management: interdependence of internal and external business processes, challenges related to integration within and across the enterprise, business reengineering vs. business maintenance and improvement, ERP – the implications of enterprise-wide applications, e-CRM and the evolution of traditional relationships, SCM and the challenge of inter-enterprise process management.
Implementation and the e-Transformation of the Global Marketplace: change management and the acceptance of a global environment, legal issues for an e-transformed enterprise: jurisdiction and intellectual property, competing in a global environment – strategic alliances and the rise of competition.
Case Studies: Selected examples of organisational e-transformation.
