Course aim

To provide knowledge and skills in the contemporary theory and practice of job analysis, recruitment and selection.

Course content

  • Job analysis (work and person oriented techniques)
  • Attraction of potential employees (sources of candidates, techniques such as realistic job previews, employee referral).
  • Assessment of candidates (issues of reliability, validity and consistency).
  • Selection tools: collecting, collating and assessing applicant information
  • Selection techniques (the different types of interviews, psychometric tests, ability tests, personality assessment, work samples, assessment centres, graphology and astrology, etc.)
  • Legal regulation of hiring.
  • Recruitment and selection as organisational socialisation.
  • Recognising diversity.
  • Person-job, person-organisation, person-workgroup fit.
  • Employer branding.
  • Employer of Choice strategies.
  • Employer choices in an era of chronic skill shortage.
