Course aim

To provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge of the role and impact of international trade on management decision making, business strategy, and business conduct in the international business context. Students will develop a body of knowledge that contributes to a comprehensive application of knowledge of international trade to recent developments in the field of international business management, and provides a pathway for further learning.

Course content

International economic institutions since World War II; comparative advantage and the gains from trade; comparative advantage and factor endowments; the theory of tariffs and quotas; international trade and labour and environmental standards; trade and the balance of payments; exchange rates and exchange rate systems; an introduction to open economy macroeconomics; international financial crises; the European Union: many markets into one.
