To introduce students to the nature and process of theology in the Catholic tradition and to provide an important foundation for teaching in a Catholic school, using contemporary approaches to Religious Education.
Students will explore the nature and process of theology in the Catholic tradition, through various topics such as the centrality of human experience in the study of theology, revelation and faith, and a Christian understanding of what it means to be human in evolutionary world of grace and sin. The students will centre their study on the historical Jesus of Nazareth and the Christ of faith, spanning Jesus’ life, ministry, death, resurrection and Christ’s trinitarian relationship with the Holy Spirit and the One he called Father. After the exploration of various christologies, the students will examine the nature and mission of Church, sacraments and sacramentality, social justice and ethics, and the person of Mary. Throughout the course, the theological underpinnings for contemporary approaches to Religious Education will be discussed and explored.
