Law Honours Thesis 1

Course aim

This course is for Honours students in Law  which precedes the writing of the Honours Thesis and is aimed at developing and refining students’ skills in legal academic writing and research, with the aim of producing a literature review in advance of the Honours Thesis. .

Course content

This course is designed to cover the following topics:
1. The elements of academic legal writing, including abstracts and literature reviews;
2. The purpose and content of an academic thesis;
3. The features of good academic legal writing (plain English, grammar, style etc);
4. Research Codes of Conduct and Ethics Approval Processes;
5. Distilling a legal problem into a research question and thesis topic.

Prerequisite(s)

Students must have successfully completed 72 units NOTE: Eligibility Requirements: In accordance with the DBLA, DBLD and DBLE Program Entry Requirements and the Honours Programs Policy No A-42, students must have a GPA of not less than 5.3 to be eligible for this course. Law Honours is by invitation only and students must be accepted into Honours to undertake this course.
