To develop students' understanding of ethics and the regulatory framework related to professional architectural practice including agreements between architects, clients, and consultants, and the process of administering standard forms of building contracts.
Students will demonstrate an understanding of the social, ethical, and cultural values relevant to architectural practice and the impacts on project users and broader communities. Students will develop knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements and obligations related to practicing as a registered architect in Australia; the processes involved in registering as an architect; professional organisations associated with the practice of architecture; the preparation of specifications and schedules; an understanding of agreements between architects, clients, and consultants; the administration of tendering processes and standard forms of building contracts; methods of dispute resolution; and knowledge of appropriate verbal, written, and visual means to communicate relevant aspects of architecture.
Students will develop and apply skills and knowledge specific to NSCA (National Standard of Competency for Architects) criteria: 1.1, 1.2, 1.4, 6.4, 7.1, 8.1, 9.5, 9.6, 9.7, and 9.8.
