Course aim

To extend students understanding of the nature and needs of business, corporations and the public sector, in terms of building procurement.

Course content

Students will develop knowledge of the business environment, ethics and professional responsibility in the context of risk management by understanding the Trade Practices Act, Development and Property law, and Copyright law. The students will also extend their knowledge of project management by investigating new forms of practice, project procurement, understanding design and novation contracts, partnering, development finance, project cost control procedures, life cycle costing, management of digital data and the Building Information Modelling (systems). Students will develop skills which will enable them to set up a design practice and set professional fees, prepare a business and marketing plan, and establish a charge out rate for profitable practice.
