Islam and World Politics

Course aim

To develop students’ understanding of Islam and the influence of Islamic discourses on contemporary world politics.

Course content

Islam and its influence on the socio-cultural and political situations of Muslims in a contemporary context; cultural and regional variations in Islamic traditions and practices; culture and gender ideology affecting Muslim women’s participation in public life; challenges of modernisation and development; representation of Islam and Muslims; Islamic political activism in contemporary times; civilisational dialogues in world politics.
