To provide and understanding of the rational for management of water quality in urban and rural environments and the methods that can be used.
Part 1 - Understanding the Nature of Water Systems. The nature of water systems; water quality; human perceptions and values.
 
Part 2 - Identifying and Assessing the Problems of Water Systems. Determining impacts on water systems; monitoring; modelling and forecasting. 
Part 3 - Solutions to Water System Problems. Investigation methodolgies, risk assessment and communication, solutions – planning and administrative aspects; Solutions – engineering works and legal, social and financial matters. Conclusions.
