To examine the implications of globalisation for policy in Australia and to develop, through policy case studies, the concepts and skills for comparative and interdisciplinary policy analyses.
The implications of globalisation and its impact on policy formulation; modernist and postmodernist approaches to policy development; the ethics and values of policy analysis, theories for policy analysis including Marxist, Critical Theory and Foucault; the links between globalisation, economic rationalism and neo-liberalism and their impact on the policy-making process; policy and the construction of ‘social problems’; the process of policy formulation, implementation, and evaluation; tools for policy analysis; critical policy analysis of particular Australian policies including housing and related issues; international comparative policy analysis.
