Engineering Discipline Integration

Course aim

The highly sophisticated and complex systems required to enable the Australian Defence Force to deliver combat capability demands engineering capabilities that are not only individually challenging but also capable of being integrated in safety across discipline boundaries. This course will explore how this can best be achieved.
On completion the student should be able to:

• Compare and contrast the range of specialist disciplines required for systems engineering; 
• Explain the importance of safety, human factors and other support disciplines; 
• Apply knowledge of appropriate standards for support functions and disciplines; 
• Apply technical management concepts to the integration of engineering disciplines.

Domains, platforms and disciplines; Electrical; Electronic; Software; Mechanical; Manufacturing; EMC; Human Factors; Safety; Security, integrity and non-repudiation; Communications; Support engineering and ILS; reliability, maintainability, availability; Environment; Obsolescence; Maturity management; Discipline integration practices.
