The aim of the course is to investigate and develop rationales for practices and resources in teaching and assessing ESL/EFL in particular educational contexts.
Language teaching relationships and contexts and how they shape instructional options; teacher knowledge and professional standards; classroom cultures; approaches to language teaching and different spheres of language teaching (e.g. vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, listening); approaches to materials design, pedagogies and resources; issues in programming (e.g. sequencing and progression considerations); issues of assessment (e.g. tension between public examination and curriculum policy).
