To further develop students' understanding of the experiences of Indigenous Australians and the past and ongoing impact of colonisation and to examine the role of psychology and psychologists in the lives of Indigenous people
Students will further develop their cultural competence and gain a deeper understanding of culture and world views by deconstructing the history and politics of psychology and Indigenous Australians, and learning about issues such as: trans-generational trauma, Indigenous loss and grief, the psychology of racism, unearned privilege, and identity and incarceration. They will further develop their knowledge about working effectively in Indigenous contexts, and the ethics and process of research with indigenous peoples. Students will apply this knowledge by developing strategies for contributing to policies to improve Indigenous social and emotional wellbeing.
