Early electronic literacies involves teachers investigating and critically analysing the early electronic literacies in the curriculum in childcare, preschool, kindergarten, reception and the first years of school; exploring the connections between home, community and educational settings and evaluating and assessing children’s learning of electronic literacies.
Theoretical frameworks underpinning new literacies, eg semiotic theory; conducting a practical case study project in an early childhood setting; the relationship between emergent print-based reading and writing and new literacies; developing a new literacies curriculum for early childhood education; models for analysing children’s learning with new literacies; critical analysis of the hardware and software for new literacies in the early childhood context.
