To give students an understanding of contemporary design considerations in the construction of effective web based learning experiences.
Learning to see and seeing to learn: the influences of cognitive development; basics of symbol recognition and alphabets; cognitive styles and visual learning; cognitive and visual aspects of interface design and navigation design; cognition and computers, symbolic constructions and knowledge representation; principles of learning through multimedia; visualising thinking; active diagrams, animations and simulations; role of active diagrams in class contexts and in individual learning; visualisation of complex information and large data sets; case studies in economics, finance, intelligence analysis and battle field systems; learning object models and active visualisation.
