Course aim

To develop students’ ability to critically analyse the relationship between culture, power and effective policy and practice in early childhood settings.

Course content

Culturally diverse contexts of early childhood; current western hegemonic views of childhood and child development; new pathways for understanding the role of culture in development; strategies for effective practice; policy responses (multiculturalism, antiracism, and equity); new approaches to relationships, teaching methods, curriculum, and management which are informed by new understandings of culture and power.
