To develop student understandings of this multidisciplinary learning area, including history, geography and futures education, focusing on disciplinary and interdisciplinary teaching and learning approaches that are connected to contexts suitable for Years 3 to 9 students.
Historical, geographical and futures perspectives are core components of society and environment and have informed the construction of this course. This course engages students with constructivist perspectives of student learning and focuses on inquiry approaches to thinking and working socially and environmentally from inclusive and critical perspectives; planning for learning in society and environment; student centred inquiry; resources that inform and support planning for learning, including outreach and outside of classroom sources; social justice, democratic process and ecological sustainability as core elements of the Years 3-9 society and environment curriculum.
