Course aim

To introduce students to the knowledge and understanding of risk management. The conceptual and case material increases sensitivity to important aspects of risk management – from a brief history, through foundation principles of real risk, the differences between strategic and tactical risk, and emerging issues in risk management.

Course content

Theory and concept sessions will be followed by workshops covering issues and case studies. Focus will be on establishing the framework on which effective understanding and actions in risk management can be developed, particularly within the LCB environment. The sessions cover the following topics: history of risk, directions from 20th Century risk management, definitions of basic risk terminologies, fundamental risk assessment and evaluation strategies, strategic V tactical (operational) risk, current issues in risk management, 21st Century trends and directions in risk and risk management.
