Students will develop advanced knowledge and skills to confidently and competently manage nursing care of adults in an intensive care setting.
Comprehensive nursing assessment including advanced data collection and interpretation; clinical reasoning, problem solving and decision making; comprehensive care planning and nursing management of the critically ill adult; applied pharmacology; use of technology; ethical decision making; grief and loss. Management of the critically ill adult with; head injuries, endocrine disorders, renal failure requiring dialysis; post cardiac surgery, shock, trauma, thermal injuries, gastrointestinal-hepatobiliary disorders; haematological disorders; patient /family education and support; maintaining professional standards and guidelines of the nursing role in the multidisciplinary team.
